Children with palliative care needs are being properly recognised at the earliest opportunity.

As part of Kentown Support’s community-focused palliative and end-of-life care model, Gaddum will deliver a comprehensive programme of therapeutic counselling to parents, siblings, and wider family members through its Palliative and End-of-Life Therapy Service.

Its central ambition—to move care away from hospitals and closer to people’s homes— strongly aligns with Kentown Support’s belief that ensuring access to a model of integrated children’s community palliative care in the community is essential.

An independent evaluation has confirmed that the Kentown Children’s Palliative Care Programme — a three-year pilot launched in 2022 and running until August 2025 — is transforming support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Dr Bethan Page, Lecturer in Child Health and Palliative Care, and Dr Dee Fields, Research Assistant, have begun work on two exciting projects at the Centre of Excellence in Children’s Palliative Care at King’s College London, which is funded by Kentown Support, led by Professor Lorna Fraser.

Children’s community palliative care has long faced gaps in provision, leaving many families without the joined-up support they deserve. The Kentown model bridges that gap, ensuring families experience compassionate, coordinated care wherever and whenever it’s needed.

On 3rd July 2025, the government released its Fit for the Future: 10-Year Health Plan for England. It sets out how the government will "reinvent the NHS through 3 radical shifts".
