For families, practical help and thoughtful experiences can make a real difference.

Kentown Support Family Service Coordinators play an important role in bringing services together and helping families access the support they need, when they need it. As part of this work, they connect families with other organisations and charities that can help. Through a partnership with Together for Short Lives, the Family Service Coordinator role is an important component of our Lancashire & South Cumbria, and Greater Manchester programmes.

Lorraine, one of our Family Service Coordinators, recently introduced mum Mehroonisa and her son Huzaifah to Whizz Kidz. The family was subsequently invited to the Whizz Kidz 'Wet Wheels' event in Whitby in June, where Huzaifah enjoyed a memorable boat trip.

“This was the first time we had done a trip like this,” said Mehroonisa. “It was an amazing experience for every one of us, and especially for Huzaifah to sit behind the wheel. The support we have received as a family from Lorraine has been wonderful.”

Lorraine has also helped the family secure a Turn2us grant towards a bespoke bed for Huzaifah, as well as a short break through the Sign Along With Us Foundation.

For families, practical help and thoughtful experiences can make a real difference.

Through the Kentown Support programme, our Family Service Coordinators listen carefully to each family, understand what matters to them and bring the right people and services together. Helping families access grants and charitable funding is another important part of their role.

Families referred to the Kentown Support programme are often unaware of the additional help available to them. Our holistic, wraparound approach considers every aspect of life for a family caring for a seriously ill child and connects them with support that can ease some of the pressures they face.

We are delighted that the programme has made a meaningful difference to Huzaifah and his family, as it has for many other children and families.
